Where I can find references citing the benefits for children of participating in theater?

I am trying to put together a proposal to help our community youth theater, but I need to be able to show the benefits of getting kids involved in the performing arts.

You should try the website of Americans for the Arts, and the National Arts Marketing Project (www.artsmarketing.org). If you happen to be in CA, the California Arts Council (or the equivalent in your state) might have resources for you. You might also get anecdotal evidence from people who participated in theatre as kids… there are many of them out there. Kudos to you on your undertaking!
