by admin on November 28, 2009

– no, not porn.

lol….. if you had to choose one kind of photograph what would it include?
please be descriptive. Animals? landscape? a kid playing dressup? what else is there? What kind of surroundings? What kind of color contrast?– dramatic (black and white)? or softer (blue and yellow)

– in other words if you were judging a photography contest what kind of uniqueness would you look for?

i love black and white for the fact that are so dramatic and capture a kind of raw emotion that only black and white can. i think my favorite black and white has to be the human body. not necessarily nude but just the curves and the shadows that are presented when the human form is taken in black and white.

Just trying to find out... November 28, 2009 at 2:49 pm

I would probably look for something that makes me wonder. Sort of like an open-ended question. Photos of people in the middle of something that leaves me wondering where they come from, where they’ve been, who they’re going to see. Or emotional photos, someone looking off with tears in their eyes that makes me wonder what causes their pain, or someone with a quizzical look that makes me wonder what they’re trying to figure out. Something that can evoke intrigue each time I see it.

I like the kind that when I look at it, I say, wow, I wish I’d taken that.
Someone took a picture of my niece, during swimming, and coming up out of the water, with drops and spray all over.
I like family pics, close ups, flowers, landscape, nature, and especially nostalgic ones; barns, windmills, etc. I also like action shots; rodeo riders going around barrels, a bale of hay being tossed down from a haymow.

abstract images are the best. they have layers upon layers of meaning.

I prefer B&W photography. It was what I was trained in back in the Good Ol’ Days. (I don’t miss the printing and archiving!) I like found situations…those moments that just seem to come together with all of the elements communicating the situation with no words necessary to explain it. I’m a people person so I enjoy looking at photographs of individuals going about their daily routine. I hope that I can appreciate a wide variety of visual images but I enjoy the photojournalistic approach.

I think things taken from quirky angles, of something that is clear in what it is, with fairly harsh lighting (without being bleached out). howing something actually happening, or something people can relate to is good.

I, too, am a B&W fan. I look for uniqueness in the photograph. S-curves, shadow and light are a couple of my favorites. I also have to like the shot. If it does not interest me, I would not care to look at it no matter the composition.
