Whenever I do a solo, I usually try to sing something sad and meaningful (like in the past I’ve done”Only Hope” by Mandy Moore/Jonathan Foreman, “Time After Time” by Eva Cassidy, and “For Good” from the musical ‘Wicked’). I don’t really want it to be so popular that people in the audience can sing it with me, but it doesn’t have to be unheard of. My mother keeps telling me to sing something upbeat, but I’m not sure if I have the type of voice to pull that off. Any suggestions are welcome!!

i like it came upon a midnight clear by sixpence none the richer. its a pretty christmas song that isnt too christmasy either
This is a song that seems to meet all of your requirements perfectly!
Oiche Chiun is just Silent Night (everyone knows that one) except that Oiche
Chiun is simply sung in a different language. It is a slow, sad and meaningful
song, and although everyone has probably heard of Silent Night, they won’t recognize it this way! You certainly won’t need to worry about singing an upbeat song unless you don’t have a strong, dynamic singing voice
You can check out the lyrics for Oiche Chiun (both versions) at this site where you can also look up other song lyrics if you wish.

Good luck with your concert!
If you want to go with an upbeat/funny song, I highly recommend:
The 12 Days After Christmas.
It’s HILARIOUS, especially when acted well.
There’s also “Twas the Night Before Christmas”. It’s a wondeful solo.
Alright, “Believe” by Josh Groban is a great one. It was in Polar Express. Also a good duet is “When Christmas Comes To Town” also in Polar Express.
P.S. I sang “For Good” in Indiana All-State Honor Choir as a Bass, and I loved it!
Hope It Helps
panis angelicus. Beautiful especially for a soprano. Its in latin so no one will sing with you and it takes a voice with talent to perform it. I sang this for my choir.

There is a song called “waht sweeter music.” it is written for SATB but you could probably pull it off as a solo. it is sad but very good. there is also one written for ladies choir called “this little babe” it could fly as a solo it is very intense but not extremely happy.
“God Rest You Merry Gentleme”n is a jazzy song (depending on which one you get).
Like I said, it is jazzy and upbeat.
If you do decide to sing something “sad and meaningful”, then try “Shepard’s Joy”. I think that song is so beautiful, it is meant for multiple parts, just like the one I mentioned above, but just sing whatever is in your range.
You should sing Carol of the Bells. It is the hotness!
