How to prepare for a high school play audition?

by admin on March 26, 2010

our next play is the “little foxes”. it’s a dramatic play. Usually, when we audition we will get a monologue or a piece of the script the day of the audition. either, we will act it out alone, or act with other people. I do not know what we are going to do. we get about 10 minutes before auditions to rehearse. it’s next week. I need to know what can i do this week to prepare for it. I can’t find no monologue’s over this play either. so, like what can i do to get ready for it? thanks

When i auditioned for school plays i always did the ‘to be or not be’ bit from hamlet, almost always got the lead. But i love Shakespeare and can easily understand it Best thing to do would be choose something you know well, that’s challenging but not too much and that will show you full potential.

try reading the play to get an idea of what it is about and what the characters are trying to portray and then go through it again and think how you would play each character and even speak some of the lines aloud. if you know the play already you could skip the reading part and just go to the next step. you could also think about which character you want to play but do not restrict yourself to that as the producer/director may have other ideas and may even ask you to audition for a part you do not particularly want or for that matter that they don’t see you doing. this will be to test your ability and desire.

good luck and i hope you get the part you really want but if not just enjoy it anyway.
