Are your kids musical? Do they like singing or play any instruments?

by admin on November 23, 2009

My kids all love music!

My 6 year old Claire likes singing. When we’re in the car she will sing along to my Vanessa Carlton CD and she has a pretty voice.

My 4 year old Alexis and 3 year old Olivia both play the violin.

My 18 month old twins Sophia and Ella like to sing too!

How about your kids? Are they musical?

Yes! My 13 year old loves to sing. She’s a soloist in her homeschool choir.

All the best.

well, I don’t have kids, but I play the piano.
I started taking lessons when I was 7 or 8 years old.

I got bored with it for awhile, but I’m back into it now (i’m 19). I like playing Christmas songs and some classical pieces.

I think it’s great for all kids to at least try an instrument (i count singing as using an instrument hehe) in order to round them out some. I think it helps with self-discipline.

My 10 month olds bottom can be pretty musical at times… and stinky… He’s the next Ludwig Van BUTThoven LOL!

Wow, how cool is that?

We are all always singing. My 12 year old daughter plays the clarinet and LOVES it. My 11 year old daughter can’t wait to play an instrument next year, she’s not sure what she wants to try yet.

Music is AWESOME!

My 12 yr old son plays euphonium in the 7th grade band. He also has a leading role in this year’s school musical, The King and I. He’s always loved music. When he was 6 I used to take him to Karaoke for Family Day. He loved it! His step father says he has a really good ear, and is talking about getting him a guitar and some lessons. I haven’t decided yet, I don’t want all his time wrapped up in lessons and practice. He’s still just a kid.

Mine do love music. My 5 year old is absolutely enthralled with piano, takes lessons once a week, and practices on our keyboard at home. She’s actually pretty good at it now.
My eldest is like me and hates even trying to read music, but she’s got a lovely voice and sings along to music in the car and in her room quite a bit. She plays the keyboard as well, and it seems like she just learns by ear better than sheets.

My 7 month old seems to enjoy music too, so maybe she’ll be musical as well.

LOL, I never liked music as a child, and I HATED it when my parents forced me to take piano lessons. However, I loved ‘mixing’ the music when I was a kid and my dad did sound for church… I always had a decent ear for acoustics in general, my dad was in the sound business and I guess it rubbed off on me =)

But now? I started liking it when I got my hands on some Coldplay music in high school, and years later, I’ve been playing the piano for 14+ years, rock at it, LOVE it, especially love that I’ve been able to turn it into a bit of a pick-up tool =P and even took up guitar last year when I got bored of only playing one instrument. While I still am not the best in the world at things like that, I’m a goddess of sound equipment, and music has helped me to overcome my sense of rhythm to at least the point where I can dance competitively.

All that said, I’m fully in favor of exposing children to as much music, both listening to it and playing it, as early as possible, and letting them decide how they feel about it as adults. For example, my brother who (obviously) had a similar upbringing to me, was practically a prodigy when it came to jazz piano, but never plays any more. However, he’s still pretty decent with the technical side =)
