My wife and I are having a disagreement about toys to get kids this Christmas. Before her and I got together she was used to buying her 2 boys the metal replicas of John Deere tractors and such for them to play with. But at $25 a piece and up I think that is way to much to spend on one toy. I believe that they are for collectors and for the people that use them in models and display scale models. She says that the plastic John Deere toys tear up and get broken too easily. What are your thoughts?

Check the packaging. It should say what age children these things are intended for — you know, “not for children under 10.” Or, it may say “For decoration only. Not a toy.” Don’t settle for hearsay and others’ opinions; go to the source and get the truth. See for whom those items are actually intended.
Well, I have collected quite a few of them over the years and I think could be either or… it depends on how old the boys are. I think they are for the most part, better for collecting, but if you look around at Walmart, they do make matchbox like John Deere toys that would probably be more suitable for playing with than a typical die cast collectible.
